USA launched new strikes on Iran, Iran in response attacked American bases in the region
On the night of June 11, the USA conducted a new major air operation in Iran, destroying command posts and military infrastructure. Tehran responded with two waves of missile strikes on three American airbases in the region, writes the BBC.

The American military carried out a series of new strikes on targets within Iranian territory, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported.
“US Central Command forces began conducting additional self-defense strikes against multiple targets in Iran at the direction of the Commander-in-Chief. These strikes are in response to Iran's unjustified and ongoing aggression,” the command emphasized.
Media reported explosions in at least six areas of Iran.
According to the Axios portal, citing military sources, all attacked targets were located in southern Iran and included air defense systems, radars, and drone command and control units.
CENTCOM later reported that the new strikes on targets in Iran had concluded.
In response, Iran stated that it had attacked American military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait — the same two targets that had been subjected to reciprocal Iranian strikes the previous day.
“The IRGC Air Force and Navy conducted two waves of operations, striking and destroying 18 key American military targets at Al-Salem, Ahmad Al-Jaber, and Sheikh Isa airbases,” Press TV reported.
It is reported that at the US base in Bahrain, “communication antennas and radar facilities of Patriot systems” were attacked.
Also, in response to the new US attacks, Iran warned that all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships, attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, would be attacked.
Shortly after the start of the new wave of bombings, Iranian state media, citing military officials, reported that Iran had struck two commercial vessels attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian state media also reported that Iran had attacked US Navy ships with missiles and drones located near the Strait of Hormuz.
Explosions were heard on Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf and in several cities.
However, the US Central Command denied reports of attacks on American warships in the Strait of Hormuz.
“No ships were struck,” CENTCOM stated, calling the assertions by Iranian media “false.”
The American military command also denied the statement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
“Commercial vessels continue to enter and exit through the Strait of Hormuz tonight,” CENTCOM indicated.
Earlier, after the exchange of strikes between American and Iranian forces in the Persian Gulf region the previous night, US President Donald Trump promised to “strike Iran powerfully” again.
On Wednesday night, the USA launched strikes on Iran which, as Trump stated, were a response to the Iranians shooting down an American helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in response, announced strikes on targets at American military bases in the region.
On Wednesday, Trump wrote on his social media: “They have dragged out negotiations for a deal that could have been great for them, and now they will have to pay for it!!!” Trump further reiterated that militarily, Iran was completely defeated.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakai accused the US of harming the negotiation process “with their contradictory statements, constant changes in positions and demands, and, worst of all, continuous violations of the truce.”
According to Bakai, Iran is currently assessing the new situation and believes that at least minimal stability is required for negotiations.
Iran's Response and US Strike on Tanker
The IRGC stated that the previous night it had launched missiles and drones at 21 targets on American bases in the region, in Bahrain and Jordan. The Kuwaiti army reported that it also had to repel an Iranian raid.
As Reuters later reported, citing an anonymous US official, almost all Iranian missiles were intercepted, and there were no reports of casualties from the Iranian strikes.
Regarding the downed Apache helicopter, Trump, according to Fox News, said that it was shot down by a drone at a very low altitude.
Two Apache pilots were recovered from the water by an American naval drone and then evacuated by another helicopter.
Meanwhile, Indian authorities stated on Wednesday that as a result of a strike on the commercial vessel Settebello, flying the flag of Palau, in the Strait of Hormuz near the Omani coast, two members of the vessel's Indian crew went missing, while the remaining 21 were rescued.
American servicemen had previously stated that they struck the tanker because it was attempting to breach the blockade and export oil from Iran. According to the military, Settebello refused to comply with their orders, and an American aircraft fired “precision munitions” at the vessel's engine room.
The USA imposed a blockade on Iranian ports after Iran, in response to bombings by the US and Israel, effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz.
Settebello became the eighth vessel on which American servicemen opened fire.
