US President's special representatives Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner made their first statements about the negotiations in Kyiv. On September 6, they arrived in Ukraine for a visit for the first time.
Whitkoff thanked Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his hospitality and noted that the trip to Ukraine was "excellent." According to him, the American side held a meaningful conversation with Ukrainian representatives, reports "RBC-Ukraine."
"We had a very significant, meaningful, and important conversation. We are very inspired. We plan to stay here as long as necessary," Whitkoff stated.
Kushner conveyed the respect of US President Donald Trump to Zelenskyy.
He noted that Trump considers the current situation complex, as it is not just about ending the war, but also about creating conditions for long-term peace.
According to Kushner, the American president wants Ukraine to be able to use its potential for reconstruction and development after the war ends.
"Trump would very much want that. He is not afraid of difficult tasks — the more difficult the task, the more persistently one must work and give everything you have," Kushner added.
He also stated that Trump seeks to stop deaths, and then resume investments and economic cooperation, which should contribute to the prosperity of Ukraine and Europe.
"We hope that as a result of this trip, we will find a new path to peace," the US representative stated.
As writes the Financial Times, Whitkoff and Kushner brought updated versions of previous documents to Kyiv. But there are few fundamentally new ideas, as Putin's desire to fully capture Donbas remains an obstacle. At the meeting, it was agreed that the war is unlikely to end before winter.
After the negotiations in Kyiv, Zelenskyy presented Whitkoff and Kushner with t-shirts bearing the inscription "Київський режим" (Kyiv Regime).
