«We are satisfied with the trip, but we gained some gray hairs.» A resident of Svetlogorsk rested in Gelendzhik and shares her emotions
Zhanna didn't really believe that Ukraine was constantly shelling the south of Russia. Then she went to Gelendzhik on the advice of acquaintances and, after returning, recorded a TikTok with a warning.

Judging by Zhanna's TikTok videos, she lives in Svetlogorsk. But from there you can't get a train to Russian resorts, so the woman and her relatives set off from nearby Zhlobin.
She says that the journey took 40 hours and was difficult, especially for the child — Zhanna and her daughters took a child with them, probably Zhanna's grandchild, who is 2.5 years old. It seems they traveled by the Minsk-Adler train, as Gelendzhik itself does not have a railway station. Zhanna says that they pre-ordered a marshrutka (minibus) that took them to Gelendzhik, and at the bus station, they were met by the owner of the accommodation they rented.
The rented room appealed to the Belarusians, although their demands were modest — a sofa, nightstands, a TV, and a refrigerator. The kitchen and shower were not in the room; moreover, the kitchen was shared.
Zhanna admits that the first days in Gelendzhik were difficult — partly because they had to figure out how to live without good network coverage. That connection was only available in a cafe they managed to find:
«Network coverage is precisely what you need at least to call a taxi and get somewhere. Once they understood the bus system, they saw that, unlike ours, buses run frequently, every half hour, and on schedule. The downside is that stops are not announced there […]
«I don't want to offend anyone, but the people there are inhospitable, angry. If you ask something — they either remain silent and don't answer, or they answer unpleasantly. In Belarus, during our trip, everyone we met was very friendly and hospitable.»
Once they got used to the lack of network coverage, a new trouble arrived:
«At night, shelling began, a drone attack. To say it was scary is an understatement. I closed the windows, and the doors, and turned off the light.»
Then network coverage appeared in Gelendzhik, and Zhanna began saying goodbye to her relatives online. Fortunately, the little one fell asleep at that time.
«It was like being in a war movie; now I understand what war is. It didn't stop for a minute all night; they were bombing and shooting,» — the woman shares her impressions.
In the morning after the shelling, the Belarusians went to the sea. On their way back, they passed through the village of Arkhipo-Osipovka and learned that a drone had fallen on tourists at a neighboring beach — Zhanna and her relatives saw a 'rally for the deceased tourists'.
After that night, air raid sirens were often heard in Gelendzhik; tourists were asked not to go far while swimming in the sea and to keep an eye on their children. Zhanna and her relatives were also ready to go back to Belarus, but for that, they would have had to change their tickets somehow. It's clear that the mood in the days leading up to their return was anything but vacation-like — although Zhanna emphasizes that, despite the shelling, she liked the sea, the climate, and the city itself in Gelendzhik.
After such a vacation, the woman advises those who are going to the south of Russia to reconsider. Zhanna answers those who don't understand why she herself went to Gelendzhik:
«I am a doubting Thomas; I thought everything was greatly exaggerated. Especially since acquaintances who recommended Gelendzhik told us that the situation there was quiet and calm now, until I experienced it for myself. I do not recommend going there.»
Separately, she notes how Russians react to drone attacks. In the house where Zhanna lived with her relatives, she saw a Russian girl crying during the shelling, but adult Russians perceive the attacks calmly:
«They explain to me that they have gotten used to it — I don't know how one can get used to this. They talk about it as something ordinary, everyday, like a fairy tale. I saw no emotions on their faces.
They say that in September they have elections, and that the war will be even bigger and stronger. They say all this so angrily.»
Interestingly, at the end of the video, Zhanna also recalls her trips to Ukraine. Her impressions of Ukrainians are completely different from those of Russians — the woman fondly recalls how hospitable and friendly Ukrainians are.
«We are satisfied with the trip, but we got more gray hairs on our heads. And you decide for yourselves,» — the woman summarizes her vacation in Gelendzhik.
