Minsk medic went to fight for Russia, sustained a severe injury a month later, and is now seeking payments, sitting in a wheelchair
26-year-old Tikhon Badyrau, an employee of the Minsk Emergency Hospital, went as a mercenary to the war against Ukraine, was appointed commander of an evacuation unit, and was severely wounded a month later. He returned to Belarus and is now inquiring in Russian chats about his combat pay — his salary was first reduced to $120, and then he was dismissed.
Tikhon Badyrau was born on June 28, 2000. He is from Glubokoye. The young man moved to Minsk and graduated from the Belarusian State Medical College with a degree in 'Nursing'.
After that, he worked as a nurse in the neurological department of the Emergency Medical Hospital in Minsk. Outside of work, Badyrau was keen on volleyball and even played for his hospital's team. Additionally, according to leaked databases, he worked part-time as a taxi driver and played online casino games.
In August 2025, Badyrau decided to sign a one-year contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense. To formalize his mercenary status in the Russian army, he traveled to Vladimir, Russia, where he obtained a one-day temporary registration.
The Belarusian was sent to the 1st Guards Tank Army. Thanks to his civilian specialty, he was appointed as a military medic and put in command of an evacuation group, and later promoted to the rank of senior sergeant.
The mercenary's combat path did not last long: Within a month, Badyrau sustained a severe injury with a fracture and ended up in a military hospital in the Belgorod region.
After treatment, he effectively spent the remainder of his contract term on endless rehabilitation leaves. Tikhon boasted in chats that he had been nominated for three Russian state awards, and categorically refused to obtain a Russian passport, counting on special conditions for Belarusians.
The former Minsk nurse is in Belarus. He recently inquired in Russian legal chats about how to receive gubernatorial payments from the authorities of the Vladimir region for his severe injury and why his official salary in his personal account was suddenly reduced from 24,000 to 10,000 Russian rubles (about $120).
In August 2026, Badyrau's one-year contract expired, and the command dismissed him without returning him to the front. He is now trying to find out in the same chats how to get anything else, but it seems he is unlikely to receive anything.
According to Belarusian legislation, he could face up to twelve years under Article 133 of the Criminal Code for mercenarism.
