The next "Eurovision" will be held in Bulgarian Burgas

It was expected that the capital — Sofia — would be chosen.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will take place from May 11-15, 2027, on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast, in the city of Burgas, announced the European Broadcasting Union and Bulgarian National Television.

This year's "Eurovision" was held in Vienna. It was won by Bulgarian singer Dara with the fiery dance hit "Bangaranga". This was the country's first victory in this contest, recalls the BBC.

Contest director Martin Green stated that he was "thrilled" with the choice of venue, adding that Burgas would "bring something truly special" to the contest.

The contest, including rehearsals, semi-finals, and the Grand Final, will be held in the newest sports and entertainment complex, Arena Burgas, opened in 2023.

"It's a vibrant, welcoming city on the Black Sea with a strong musical and cultural identity, and it has the ambition, infrastructure, and passion needed to host the Eurovision family," Green believes.

Burgas is the second-largest city on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast (after Varna). It was chosen for several reasons, including the number of recreation facilities and hotels, transport accessibility, and the possibility of reaching it from other countries.

For some, it came as a surprise that the contest would be held there, and not in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
