Co-founder of "Makey" leaves the company to focus on her own brand
Creative director and co-founder of the Grodno company "Makey", Larisa Makey, is leaving the family business. She now intends to fully concentrate on developing her own brand L’epatage, which she creates together with her daughter Darya, writes Hrodna.life.
The history of the Grodno leather goods brand "Makey" began in 1990 with a small family workshop. According to the company owner Vitaly Makey, it all started with a leather notebook that the couple made as a gift for friends.
"After some time, I met them, and they said: 'It's so beautiful that your gift still adorns our table.' And then I thought – we can revive folk crafts and try to bring back old traditions. We didn't invent anything new – we just returned to old roots," Vitaly Makey recalled.
Initially, only relatives helped with production: Vitaly's mother handled leather cutting, Larisa was responsible for design, and his brother helped with manufacturing.
Over three decades, the family business grew into a large company with more than 300 employees. Today, Makey products are sold in Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Great Britain, and other countries. Since 2008, the company has been a resident of the Free Economic Zone.
The company produces leather goods and business accessories, interior items, and author's souvenirs. From the company's founding, Larisa Makey was responsible for developing the design and the entire range of accessories.
Larisa Makey created the L’epatage brand together with her daughter Darya, who also joined the family business. The new project was conceived as a bolder and more conceptual direction, differing from the classic Makey style.
At the core of L’epatage collections are women's leather corsets, peplums, and accent accessories.
Now, as stated on the brand's social media, Larisa Makey will fully focus on creative work at L’epatage and further expanding its collections. According to the project team, this will allow developing the new direction without limitations associated with the aesthetics of the classic brand.
