Former political prisoner Aliaksei Liaukevich died. He was released three months ago after Cole's visit
The 38-year-old footballer died in an accident.
Aliaksei Liaukevich died at the end of June 2026.
Liaukevich was 38 years old. He was from Radoshkovichi but lived in Barauliany.
In 2011, he graduated from the Belarusian State Technological University. He worked in the construction sector — involved in tile laying and finishing works.
A large part of his life was sports: Aliaksei played amateur football and mini-football for many years. He played in the 5x5 Premier League for the do-doma.by and «BelVEB» teams, with dozens of matches and goals to his name.
Liaukevich was arrested at the end of 2024. He was convicted under three political articles: Part 1 of Art. 368 (insulting Lukashenka), Part 1 of Art. 130 (inciting hatred), and Art. 369 (insulting a government official) — and declared a «terrorist.»
Liaukevich was among 250 political prisoners released on March 19, 2026, after another visit by John Cole. He was allowed to remain in Belarus.
Aliaksei even managed to play for his mini-football team in April 2026.
Aliaksei Liaukevich lived in freedom for only three months.
