A strangely shaped mushroom found on a dacha near Smalyavichy. And a very pungent smell is felt from afar

At arm's length, it's already difficult to be near it.

Marina contacted the Onliner.by editorial office. The woman found a mushroom of unusual shape on her dacha in the Smalyavichy district. This year, such mushrooms grew on the plot for the first time, and she had never encountered them before in her life. It's impossible not to notice them — a very pungent smell is felt from afar.

— It grows in different places on the plot, but specifically among plants that resemble moss. Apparently, it's most humid there.

It is very "fragrant". At arm's length, it's already difficult to be near it. And a swarm of flies constantly circles around it. After the first "meeting", I almost felt sick. It was because of the smell that we started to figure out what it was.

As Marina says, Google, based on the photo, suggested that it is "stinking morel" (more often it is also called Phallus impudicus, Mutinus ravenelii. It is listed in the Red Book of Belarus as a rare species. This is an unusual mushroom, known for its unpleasant smell and very fast growth — up to 5 mm per minute. The adult mushroom has a phallic shape and attracts flies that spread its spores).

@maryna_vasilenko Встречайте!

Journalists decided to clarify with mushroom specialist Sasha Harbatsevich what it actually was.

— This is Mutinus ravenelii, commonly called the stinking morel. It belongs to the family Phallaceae. It is practically not found in the wild, but it grows quite often in household plots. Some write that it is a rare mushroom, listed in the Red Book, but this is not true.

The mushroom originates from North America. It accidentally made its way to Europe last century along with soil brought to botanical gardens.
