At least 15 people killed in a terrorist attack on a military post in Pakistan

At least 15 people died on July 24 in a terrorist attack carried out by a suicide bomber at a military checkpoint in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in northwestern Pakistan. The radical group "Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan" (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, Reuters reports .

According to the Pakistani army, the suicide bomber drove a car laden with explosives into a wall surrounding a military post. The powerful blast killed 12 soldiers, two policemen, and one civilian employee.

A shootout ensued after the explosion. According to the military, 12 armed militants were killed during the battle.

The Pakistani army stated that it would continue its fight against terrorism, which it claims is supported from abroad. Security forces' operation in the attack area is ongoing.

The group "Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan", also known as the Pakistani Taliban, has been waging an armed struggle for many years to impose a strict interpretation of Islamic law in the country. During the war in Afghanistan, some of its members found refuge on the Afghan side of the border.

According to United Nations estimates, after the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, TTP significantly strengthened its position and increased the number of its supporters.

Pakistani authorities claim that TTP militants organize attacks operating from Afghan territory, to which they return after the attacks. Afghan authorities reject these accusations and state that TTP's activities are an exclusively internal problem for Pakistan.

In recent years, the number of terrorist attacks in the northwestern regions of Pakistan, especially near the Afghan border, has been steadily increasing. In 2025 alone, hundreds of military personnel, security forces, and civilians were killed as a result of such attacks. Independent observers believe that the TTP group is behind most of these attacks.
