In the second quarter of 2026, Georgia expelled a record number of Belarusian citizens
In April-June 2026, Georgian authorities expelled 16 citizens of Belarus from the country. This became a new record for the entire observation period, as evidenced by an analysis of local police statistics conducted by the publication "Pozirk".
The number of expelled Belarusians in the second quarter was twice as high as in the first quarter, when a record was also set. Among those deported from the country during this period were 15 men and one woman.
In total, during the first half of 2026, Georgia expelled 24 citizens of Belarus. This accounts for approximately 1.18% of all foreigners expelled by the country during the same period. The total number of expelled foreigners was 2036 people.
Additionally, in the second quarter, 12 Belarusians, all men, were placed in a temporary detention center. This is 2.4 times more than in the first three months of the year, when five Belarusians were held in such facilities.
In 2025, Georgia expelled six Belarusian citizens, which was then a record figure. For comparison, over the preceding six years — from 2019 to 2024 — only three Belarusians were expelled from the country.
Meanwhile, in recent years, Georgian authorities have significantly tightened migration control. The number of expelled foreigners has been growing: in 2021 there were 77 cases, in 2022 — 165, in 2023 — 190, in 2024 — 363, and in 2025 — already 1311.
In February 2026, Georgian authorities stated that they plan to expel about 4,000 illegal migrants from the country during the year, in order to, among other things, improve the situation on the labor market for the country's citizens.
