Talks with Iran could take place today

US President Donald Trump said that new talks with Iran would begin on Monday after he canceled what he called "massive" strikes on the country. Iran has not yet confirmed either the date of the talks or its readiness for them, writes the BBC.

"They knew the extent of the attack because they saw it being prepared," Donald Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One. "We are in talks with them. They will start Monday afternoon."

Earlier on the Truth social network, Trump wrote that Iran and US allies in the Middle East had asked him to "refrain" from any attacks, as "main conditions" of an agreement had already been agreed upon.

Iran has not yet responded to Trump's statements. The US President has repeatedly claimed that a peaceful settlement is close, but new strikes have followed.

Speaking to reporters aboard the presidential plane, Trump declined to name a deadline for an agreement with Tehran: "We'll see how it unfolds. We are ready to act at any moment. I'm not going to kill people."

Trump also added that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as US partners, primarily the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, urged him to refrain from new strikes over the weekend.

"We were fully ready for negotiations," Trump said. "The reason they asked is that they believe an agreement has already been reached," he noted. "There is already an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz, and an agreement on the nuclear program will also be concluded," the US President stated.

Following Trump's statements about talks, global oil prices fell in Asian trading. The price of Brent crude fell by 4.5% to $83.98 per barrel, and the price of American oil fell by 4.6% to $80.74 per barrel.
