A petition has been created in Kyiv calling for schools to switch to distance learning. The author of the appeal believes that due to intensified Russian attacks, children are under constant stress, and in-person learning in such conditions is dangerous, writes RBC-Ukraine.
"Under such conditions, when night shellings occur several times a week, it is impossible to properly attend school, as children cannot even get enough sleep, being forced to sit in shelters almost all night," the petition states.
The author also reminds that during the pandemic and at the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainian schools already operated remotely, so, in her opinion, students should not be obligated to attend educational institutions given the current security situation.
The petition was registered on August 5. For it to be considered by the Kyiv city authorities, it must collect 6,000 signatures within 60 days.
This winter, after large-scale Russian shellings, a significant part of Kyiv remained without heating. Because of this, schools and kindergartens in some districts were temporarily merged to maintain in-person learning. Additionally, in January, a number of schools in Ukraine switched to distance learning due to a sharp cold snap. In some educational institutions, winter holidays were extended.
Earlier, former Minister of Education Oksen Lisovyi stated that after night shellings, children do not have to go to school if they are exhausted. They will be able to catch up on missed knowledge after regaining their strength.
