"It's even disgusting to touch." Parents "boast" about the textbooks their children received at school
The school year has begun. Schoolchildren were issued textbooks. Not all received books in good condition. Some are tattered, scribbled on, and even have holes inside. On Threads, parents are sharing photos of textbooks that require "resuscitation" or are beyond it, noted "Zerkalo".
Katerina's daughter from Grodno started 6th grade this year. Her mother expressed her reaction to the textbooks issued to the schoolgirl for lessons in four words.
"My shock is in shock!" she wrote on Threads and posted a video review of the set of books.
According to the woman, out of 15 textbooks, three are new, five are "used, but in more or less good condition." The remaining seven "shocked" the author of the video.
"How can such textbooks be issued? — she says in the video, showing the tattered English and Math books. — To carry them to school for a whole year. How can this be carried? Taped with scotch tape, the tape is already peeling off everywhere. It feels like they were just pulled out of a dumpster. These textbooks should have already gone to recycling. How can such things be given to children? Or am I missing something in this life? Please correct me. Well, what is this? Especially math. It's even disgusting to touch."
In the comments, user Tatiana was skeptical of the mother's complaint. According to her, the textbooks are designed for several years, and if students "ruined" them in the very first year, then the questions are for the children.
"Yes, they are tattered and taped on the outside, but inside the text is readable, everything is visible. What's the problem? — she commented on Katerina's post and suggested as an option that the woman herself buy the necessary books for her child. — And so you were issued the entire set for 20 rubles (the cost of a set for grades 1-11 is 22.5 rubles, for beneficiaries — 11.25 rubles. — Ed. note). Yes, not perfectly new, but once again: buy new ones for yourself and study calmly. Also, all textbooks are available electronically — download them, print them."
At the same time, other parents joined the discussion, sharing Katerina's "pain" and showing what books their children had received.
Among them was user Alina.
Anna, another participant in the conversation, also responded to the problem.
"Last year, my daughter was given even worse ones for math and English," she wrote. "Pages were missing or cut. Probably the 6th graders' 'favorite subjects.' We exchanged them at the library for slightly better ones, but they weren't great either."
The woman also attached photos of her last year's math textbook.
User Natalia also shared "fresh" examples of books.
"Also 6th grade, same situation," noted the participant in the conversation. "I took a photo and sent it to the homeroom teacher, otherwise they wouldn't accept them later. They promised to replace them in a month."
Some parents did not attach photos but described the condition of the received books in the comments. Here are some of them:

"School in Minsk, also 6th grade. And also such torn textbooks. My daughter received them today and was at home taping them up. But then they'll have to be returned in neat condition."

Katerina was not the only one to raise the issue of damaged textbooks on her Threads. In the math book issued to Svetlana's child, one page was scribbled on, and another had a hole.
In her account, the woman reported that, "armed" with scotch tape, scissors, and an eraser, she tried to "resuscitate" the textbooks.
"But this is complete chaos... Dear parents, let's treat both textbooks and us, parents, who after you and your children receive knowledge with the help of these aids, with respect," she appealed to school parents.
Olga, the mother of a sixth-grader, also showed one of the school books on Threads.
"We received textbooks, and almost all of them are in this condition. My daughter said that they even chose the best ones with the librarian," the woman commented on the photo. "Parents, do you seriously not see or do you just not care how your child treats things?! The textbook is not old."
User Alexey's son met Knowledge Day with a broken leg, so his father went to pick up his textbooks. Seeing the condition of the books, the man joked.
"The textbooks show that the granite of science was gnawed in the literal sense," he wrote on his page and attached photo evidence.
The photo shows that the bindings of some books are tattered, and in some places, completely missing.

Tatiana, a school library employee, also participated in the discussion about the textbook situation. Using her own experience, she tried to explain why such problems with textbooks arise.
"The textbook fund is 19,000; it's impossible to check each one upon return, but we do check the new ones. Each one. We return scribbled-on books, force students to repurchase them, but this doesn't help everyone; some children keep ruining them year after year," she shared her observations. "The funding period for textbooks is five years, but, unfortunately, they are not always issued on time, which is what happened with the 6th-grade textbooks this year."
Lyudmila Romanovskaya, head of the methodological center of the State Educational Institution "Academy of Education," noted that textbooks are reissued, on average, every five to six years.
"The service life depends on how often a textbook or educational aid is used in the educational process," the expert explained. "There are subjects that appear once a week in a child's schedule, and there are those that appear two or three times. On average, the service life is five to six years. There are textbooks and aids that are reissued every seven years. A primer is released no more often than once every three years."
In another post, where the condition of the books was also actively discussed, user Tatiana shared advice for families who had received tattered books.
"Go to the library with your child and ask for a replacement. They should always have a few in stock. At our school, textbooks are regularly updated. It probably depends on the head of studies or whoever handles this," she shared her opinion. "Ours are all in good condition. Some [books] were even new. Only the English language one is a bit tattered, but nothing is torn off anywhere."
As confirmation of her words, she attached a photo showing a stack of neat textbooks.
