Minsk authorities explained why they don't name exact dates for opening new metro stations

The exact date for the opening of new stations on the third line of the Minsk Metro has not yet been named. The reason for this, as stated by Artsiom Tsuran, Chairman of the Minsk City Council, on the ONT TV channel's "Face to Face" program, is not a shortage of workers.

The main problem, according to the official, is related to complex soils and high groundwater levels, which require additional engineering preparation.

Therefore, Artsiom Tsuran stated that the stations will open in the foreseeable future, but it is too early to name a specific day.

The construction of three stations on the Zielienalužskaja line continues. In certain areas, complex work is currently underway to lower groundwater levels. The soils underground are heavy and saturated with water, making it impossible to safely lay tunnels without appropriate preparation.

At the same time, construction rates have doubled thanks to a change in tunneling technology. Previously, one tunnel was built first, after which the tunnel boring machine was turned around to lay the second in the opposite direction. Now, both tunnels are being built simultaneously.

In parallel, preparations have already begun for the next stage of the capital's metro development — the fourth, or ring line. According to current plans, the new line will run along Minsk's second transport ring.

The entire ring line will not be built at once — it will be divided into several stages. In the first section, three stations are planned. One of them will become a major interchange hub at the intersection with Pobjediteley Avenue. City authorities expect that this section will also be implemented in the foreseeable future.

Simultaneously, construction of a major transport interchange between the Liebiadziny and Kamiennaja Horka microdistricts continues in Minsk. It is intended to connect the Frunzensky and Centralny districts. Traffic on the new interchange is planned to open in the coming months.

Work there is carried out around the clock, including at night and on weekends. After the completion of this interchange, road builders plan to put into operation two more major transport hubs in the Kastryčnicki, Lieninski, and Maskoŭski districts. According to plans, they should close the second transport ring and partially redistribute the traffic flow that currently uses the Minsk Ring Road (MKAD).
