By the end of 2026, Belarus plans to increase the length of asphalt-paved roads. This was stated by First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Ryhor Hlazko on the "Belarus 1" TV channel.
According to the official, over the past few years, the number of potholes on motorways has decreased fivefold. The official named increased funding for road infrastructure as one of the reasons.
It is planned to spend 19 billion rubles on the new five-year program. Of these, 17 billion rubles are to come from the state budget, including the Republican Road Fund, and another 2 billion rubles from local budgets. These funds are planned to be allocated for the repair of at least 25,000 kilometers of roads and at least 500 bridges.
For comparison, during the previous five-year period, 11.5 billion rubles were spent on road works, and 18.5 thousand kilometers of roads were repaired.
Road workers are currently striving, by order of Lukashenka, to connect agrotowns with district centers via asphalt-paved roads. By the end of 2026, gravel surfacing is planned to be replaced with improved surfacing on 156 kilometers of roads in the vicinity of 34 agrotowns.
Simultaneously, the reconstruction of major motorways continues. One of the features of the new projects will be the use of cement-concrete pavement instead of asphalt.
In the Homiel region, more than 1.2 billion rubles are planned to be spent on the reconstruction of a section of the M-10 highway. A total of 85 kilometers of road are to be upgraded. Works will be carried out in stages. The first 16-kilometer section is planned to open in the autumn of 2026.
Another major project is being implemented in the Minsk region – the R-28 "Minsk – Maladzyechna – Narach" road is being reconstructed there.
After the completion of the works, this section will become four-lane and will comply with technical category I. The project also provides for cement-concrete pavement and the installation of a double-sided barrier fence on the median strip.
