The heads of the foreign policy departments of Belarus and Poland held a meeting on September 22 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. This was reported by BelTA in the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
"The meeting with Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski was dedicated to assessing the state of Belarusian-Polish relations and ways for their further development in the interests of the peoples of both countries. The parties also discussed the situation in the region," the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus reported.
One of the conditions for normalizing relations with Minsk, Warsaw called for the release of political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut. This happened in April 2026, after five years of imprisonment. Despite his expulsion from Belarus upon release, he was able to enter Belarus in September. He was not arrested then. It should be noted that Poczobut refrained from political statements and direct contacts with the Belarusian opposition and independent media.

Asked about the course of the meeting and the topics discussed, Sikorski said that among them were the situation at the border, as well as the regional security situation.
Asked if he asked Belarus not to allow Russia to fly drones and missiles through its territory, he replied: "Among other things."
— This is the first, introductory meeting, but meetings of other departments are also taking place at other levels. We will soon open a new embassy building in Minsk. If a neighbor wants to unfreeze and improve relations, Poland is always the first ready for agreement, — said the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
To a clarifying question whether this means that the Polish government recognizes Lukashenka's regime, Sikorski replied: "As a state, we recognize other states, not governments."
Asked if this means a normalization of relations with Belarus, he said that "it's like a snowdrop that can bloom if the weather is favorable."
