Russia plans a series of strikes on Ukraine to cut off imports, disable HPPs and NPPs

The Russians plan to disable the Ukrainian energy system in three stages. This is evidenced by a plan, published by NY Times journalists citing information intercepted by Ukraine.

The first — disabling substations near Ukraine's western borders that import electricity from Europe. The second — disabling hydroelectric power plants. The third — disconnecting three NPPs (Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and South Ukraine).

In total, Russia plans to use up to 1000 missiles, drones, and aerial bombs. Among the targets are substations, thermal power plants, HPPs, boiler houses, and other energy system facilities.

The ultimate goal is to cut off large Ukrainian cities from electricity, heating, and water supply, which could lead to a humanitarian crisis.

Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa have been identified as main targets: the enemy plans to reduce electricity supplies to these cities by 90%, reduce heat supplies by up to 90%, and also severely disrupt the sewage system.

But it is not yet clear whether Russia will follow the strategy outlined in the document — and whether it will succeed if it does.

Also, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated today that Putin wants to force Ukrainians to leave Kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this to El País, RBC-Ukraine writes.

«They (the Russians) want Ukrainians — especially those in the capital — to leave the capital. In fact, this is exactly what they sought to achieve when they launched the full-scale invasion,» Zelenskyy noted.

According to him, Putin's tactic is to escalate the conflict as much as possible, and he will do so.

«And as the midterm elections in the US approach [to be held on November 3 — NN], he will do this more and more actively,» the Ukrainian president predicts.

He drew a parallel between the events currently taking place in Kyiv, which daily experiences 300 to 500 attacks, and the upcoming elections in the United States.

«Remember that in 2022 their goal was to force people to leave the capital, to prove: if there is no capital — there is no country. But our country is more than just a capital, and the capital remains strong,» Zelenskyy emphasized.
