«He never just disappeared like that»

The «Onliner» publication spoke with Aliaksandr's wife, who last saw him at home on Tuesday around ten in the morning. Katsiaryna recalls that on that day the man was «emotionally distraught»: the probable reason was strange pains the Minsk resident had been complaining about for the past few weeks.

«It's not very clear whether these were physical pains or something psychosomatic… He said his knees hurt, then his back, then his right side. Over the past two weeks, they called an ambulance three times. He was taken, then sent [home]… They found nothing like that. But he still constantly complained about pain, fell into panic. At the same time, MRI and tests were normal. This started back in the summer, but his simply terrifying depressive state began in the last two weeks.»

Before disappearing, Aliaksandr also called an ambulance — this was around six in the morning. From the Emergency Medical Hospital, the man was again sent home without a diagnosis by nine o'clock. He had breakfast and left for work.

Katsiaryna last spoke with her husband on Tuesday at 2:05 PM — Aliaksandr, according to her, was in a depressed emotional state, but promised to pick up their son from school and agreed to plan a family vacation for the weekend.

At 3 PM, as indicated in the «Angel» missing person notice, the Minsk resident's phone was already unavailable.

«I wasn't immediately scared, because he works as a sales representative in stores and often goes down to basement premises where there's no signal. I continued working, simultaneously calling, writing on Viber — no answer. Realizing he should be at the child's school by then, I went there but didn't see his car. He didn't pick up the child. Although this is unacceptable for us, he never just disappeared like that. This, of course, alarmed me, given his state.»

Car found in a village near Smalyavichy: what else is known about the search progress

When the police began searching for Aliaksandr, they managed to establish the last known location where his phone was turned on — Smalyavichy district, Kalniki village.

On the morning of September 30, the family's car was also found near it. The car was locked, and the phone, work tablet, keys to two apartments, and wallet that the man had with him were not in the cabin. Katsiaryna recalls that her husband had neither a backpack nor anything else with him where he could have put these items.

Active searches are currently underway in this area, including the use of special equipment — drones and all-terrain vehicles. Nearby bodies of water are being searched by divers. Search teams are coordinating chains of volunteers.

Katsiaryna believes that her husband could have easily walked quite far from where he parked the car: recently, Aliaksandr had been taking long walks in the park near their home to suppress negative thoughts.
