The face of the Brest DFR never received the rank of colonel. And was sent to a boiler house as an ideologist
Valery Velyasnitski was the voice of the financial police of Brest region for more than 15 years.
In the 2010s, Lieutenant Colonel Valery Velyasnitski headed the Pinsk inter-district department of the Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee for Brest region and was responsible for Pinsk, Pinsk, Luninets, Ivanava, and Stolin districts.
Under his leadership, for the department's anniversary, with the blessing of Archbishop Stefan of Pinsk and Luninets, banners were made depicting Saint Apostle Paul — "the heavenly patron of financial investigation bodies".
In the summer of 2020, Velyasnitski was transferred to the regional DFR department, where he effectively became the face of the department, commenting on all high-profile cases in the region.
In 2020, the DFR became an instrument for carrying out political repressions, when under the guise of prosecuting for financial violations, repressive bodies punished citizens for demonstrating civic positions. Velyasnitski's personal role in the repressions, as well as the proportion of fabricated cases, is still unknown.
Velyasnitski's last known comment as an employee of the Department of Financial Investigations was released in 2025.
And already in 2026, as "Nasha Niva" learned, Velyasnitski surfaced as an ideologist for the Brest Boiler House Economy. The enterprise employs about 450 people.
Now his work involves "unified information days," seminars of the "ideological vertical" of the Leninski district, and the implementation of directive No. 12 "On the implementation of the foundations of the ideology of the Belarusian state." This, in fact, fills the Telegram channel of the Brest Boiler House Economy.
Interestingly, throughout his long career in the authorities, Velyasnitski never received the rank of colonel. According to the Regulation on service in financial investigation bodies, lieutenant colonels (and lower ranks) can serve up to 48 years of age. Velyasnitski reached this age on April 5, 2026. Beyond that — only with the personal consent of the leadership or upon being granted the rank of colonel.
