A drug dealer facing life imprisonment attacked Russian security forces in a convoy car in the Caucasus. He was killed.
The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia denied reports of a revolt on a train with prisoners moving along the North Caucasus Railway. According to the service, at Murtazovo station in Kabardino-Balkaria, there was not a revolt, but an attack by one of the convicts on a convoy officer. The prisoner, while being escorted to the toilet, attacked the convoy officer and seized his service weapon.

As a result of the attack, one FSIN employee died, and three others were injured. Other convoy officers who arrived to help shot the attacker. There were no civilian casualties.
Later, the publication Baza reported that the attack on the convoy was carried out by 43-year-old Dmitry Pushkarov, whom Russian media call "Magadan's Escobar." He had previously been extradited from Georgia to Russia in a case involving a number of drug-related crimes.
According to "Baza," Pushkarov was facing life imprisonment, which is why he might have decided to attempt an escape. As early as 2023, he allegedly acquired a large batch of drugs and organized its delivery to the Magadan region for further sale.
Later, at one of the local dairy farms, according to the criminal case materials, plants containing narcotic substances were cultivated. The harvest was stored in an ancillary room controlled by Pushkarov. In addition, he allegedly managed an online drug store. In January 2024, he transferred more than 1.3 kilograms of narcotic substances to one of his accomplices via a stash.
After this, law enforcement agencies became interested in Pushkarov. Soon, he, along with other defendants in the case, left the country. He was declared internationally wanted and detained in Georgia. On September 24, Pushkarov, along with his accomplice Korney Fedunov, was extradited to Russia.
Pushkarov was charged with creating and participating in a criminal community, attempting to sell drugs in especially large and large quantities, illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of precursors, as well as illegal cultivation of narcotic plants on a large scale. Additionally, he was implicated in further episodes related to the illegal trafficking of precursors and attempting to sell drugs in especially large quantities.
On October 3, the FSIN reported that the family of the deceased employee and the injured would be provided with the necessary assistance. Employees of the FSIN Directorate for Stavropol Krai, who prevented the escape from custody, will be presented with Russian state awards. One of the awards will be granted posthumously.
