Billionaire Andrej Babiš Appointed Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
Czech President Petr Pavel on Tuesday, December 9, appointed ANO movement leader Andrej Babiš as the country's prime minister. Babiš, who recently celebrated his 71st birthday, became the oldest politician ever to head the Czech government.

Babiš, who previously served as prime minister, returns to power after four years in opposition.
His ANO party formed a coalition with two right-wing populist forces: "Freedom and Direct Democracy," which campaigned on criticism of migration, including from Ukraine, and "Motorists for Themselves," which opposes the "green agenda."
The draft program of the new government states that it will reject attempts to create a pan-European army. It also plans to expand cooperation with Slovakia and Hungary.
Andrej Babiš, according to Forbes, is among the ten wealthiest people in the country.
The new appointment occurred amidst a long-standing conflict of interest. Babiš is a billionaire and owner of the Agrofert holding company, which receives subsidies from the European Union.
President Pavel repeatedly urged the ANO leader to resolve this conflict. As a result, Babiš announced that he was transferring Agrofert to a trust, and only after that did he receive the president's consent for his appointment.
