Hybrid Attacks and Smuggling: Lithuania Intensifies Focus on Border with Belarus
In connection with the earlier influx of weather balloons with contraband from Belarus and detained Lithuanian trucks, the National Security Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the security situation at the border, Delfi.lt reports.
"The security situation at the border with Belarus will be discussed — threats related to weather balloons, the situation with trucks remaining in Belarus, and the general context of the situation. An assessment will be made of what has already been done, what actions are currently being taken, and what additional measures may be required," Ignas Dobrovolskas, advisor to the Prime Minister, commented on Tuesday.
"The situation on the eve of the holidays, as well as possible measures for this period, will also be considered," he added.
As previously reported, US Special Envoy John Coyle, who met with Alexander Lukashenka on Friday-Saturday, told foreign media that A. Lukashenka had promised to stop the flights of balloons with contraband into Lithuania, which the country considers a hybrid attack.
