Political prisoners Viktor Babaryka and Maria Kalesnikava, released on December 13, arrived in Berlin on December 19. In the German capital, they were met by the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul.

On December 13, 123 political prisoners were released from correctional facilities in Belarus as a result of negotiations with US representatives. 114 of them were expelled to Ukraine, from where 87 people later moved to Poland, and 20 to Lithuania. Maria Kalesnikava and Viktor Babaryka traveled to Germany at the invitation of the German government.
