In Babruysk, forensic experts had to investigate an unusual case of death: a 59-year-old man died after falling face first into a puddle and drowning, writes the press service of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations.

The incident occurred after a chance encounter on the street. A 43-year-old resident of Babruysk asked the older man for a cigarette. A quarrel erupted between them, which escalated into a fight. The 59-year-old man was drunk. After several blows to the head, he fell onto the asphalt and ended up face down in a puddle.
His opponent pulled the man out of the water and called an ambulance and the police. However, it was not possible to save the victim.
To accurately establish the cause of death, a forensic medical examination was conducted at the Babruysk Interdistrict Department of the State Committee of Forensic Examinations.
Experts found bodily injuries on the deceased's head and hands. They were classified as minor and, according to the expert's conclusion, were not causally related to the death. 3.6 permille of ethyl alcohol was found in the man's blood.
The cause of death was mechanical asphyxia — obstruction of the respiratory tract by water during drowning. Thus, even a small amount of water in a puddle was enough for a fatal outcome if a person cannot raise their head in time.
The Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case against the 43-year-old resident of Babruysk for causing death by negligence.
