Employees of the Grodno Region Cybercrime Department, in cooperation with colleagues from the Investigative Committee, identified a 30-year-old resident of Astraviec who, for a fee, provided scammers with services to route calls from the internet to the GSM standard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs press service reports.
Thanks to him, the criminals could communicate with potential victims while remaining anonymous. He also had access to all conversations and could eavesdrop on them.
The man had been engaged in criminal activity for just over a year, having hidden GSM gateways in a rented apartment. He also involved relatives and acquaintances who sought out straw persons for SIM card registration.
The equipment was used in over 40 cases of fraud against citizens. Furthermore, the damage caused to telecommunication operators exceeded 330,000 rubles.
A criminal case has been initiated.
