American startup offers to reserve a spot in a Moon hotel for a million dollars
A California startup has announced it has started accepting reservations for rooms in a future hotel on the Moon. The company is offering wealthy adventure seekers the chance to reserve a spot by paying a deposit of $1 million. The hotel is planned to open in 2032, Space.com writes .

Galactic Resource Utilization Space (GRU), a company founded by Skyler Chan, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, launched a reservation website on January 12 and unveiled the concept of its future lunar hotel. According to the developers, it is intended to become the first permanent structure outside Earth in history.
For construction, special habitation modules and automated technology for processing lunar soil into durable building materials are planned to be used. Work is scheduled to begin in 2029, but only after all necessary permits have been obtained.
The first clients of the hotel are expected to be participants in commercial space flights and wealthy couples looking for an unusual honeymoon destination. GRU believes that tourism will be key to developing the lunar economy and helping humanity move beyond a single planet more quickly.
The company's founder notes that humanity is now at a turning point, with a real chance to become an interplanetary species within the lifetime of the current generation. In his opinion, billions of people will be able to be born and live on the Moon and Mars in the future.
Skyler Chan is 21 years old and an electrical engineering and computer science engineer. The idea for a Moon hotel came to him while participating in the Y Combinator startup accelerator. According to him, the project has already received financial support from investors associated with SpaceX and Anduril.
The creation of a permanent base on the Moon is also part of the US plans to expand its presence in space, supported by NASA leadership and President Donald Trump. Chan hopes his company can become part of this strategy. Additionally, GRU has published an analytical document describing a long-term vision for settling the Moon — starting with an elite hotel and culminating in a full-fledged colony.
