Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman influenced US President Donald Trump, convincing him not to strike Iran, a senior Saudi official told AFP. This information was also confirmed by another official from a Persian Gulf country.

The trio of countries conducted a "long and intense last-minute diplomatic campaign" to give Iran a chance to show good intentions. Due to tensions, some personnel were evacuated from the main American base in Qatar, and US mission staff in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were warned to be cautious.
Earlier, the US threatened to intervene in the situation of the bloody crackdown on protesters in Iran, and Tehran warned that it could respond with strikes on American military and naval targets.
Diplomats also reported that the threat at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar was reduced after some personnel were evacuated, and now aircraft are gradually returning to their previous positions.
Trump changed course after receiving assurances from "important sources on the other side" that Iran would not punish demonstrators with death.
The Saudi official noted that the main goal of the diplomatic efforts was "to avoid an uncontrolled situation in the region" and prevent serious consequences from a possible attack.
Additionally, Iran was informed that strikes on American facilities in the region could affect its relations with the Gulf countries.
