"If a regime can only maintain power through violence, then it is practically over for it. I believe that we are currently witnessing the last days and weeks of this regime," he said during a visit to the Indian city of Bangalore, Bild writes.
Merz sharply condemned the actions of the authorities in Tehran. Earlier, he called the crackdown on peaceful demonstrations "disproportionate" and "brutal" and called on the Iranian leadership to "protect its own population, not intimidate it."
At the same time, the Chancellor specifically emphasized the courage of the people who, according to him, peacefully take to the streets, demanding freedom, and have every right to do so.
