Pazniak recalled that Kalesnikava is "a political nobody", but with a smart sister
Veteran of the Belarusian movement Zianon Pazniak gave on Facebook an assessment of the latest initiative by recently released political prisoner Maria Kalesnikava and lashed out at "populist 'incredible ones'".

At the beginning of his post, Zianon Pazniak declared the successes of his own position "in the matter of releasing political prisoners, lifting economic sanctions, and asserting Belarus's political subjectivity," which became possible thanks to "President Trump's wise rational policy."
But these successes provoked "desperate activity by agents (and charlatans) against our politics," and "there's nothing new here. Such is the cursed reality of a cursed time."
Nevertheless, in the opinion of the veteran of the Belarusian movement, something new, or forgotten old, has emerged. And it is connected with the name of Maria Kalesnikava, against whom Pazniak repeatedly and sharply spoke out during her imprisonment and has not changed his position now:
"We remember this 'political nobody' — Maria Kalesnikava. (Again, I remind you — the definition in politics does not concern the person; the person remains themselves). And what didn't populists do with this invented political image? The populist bubble was inflated to 'incredible' proportions, posters were created, she was constantly talked about, male individuals painted their lips with red paint (to resemble 'Masha')".
Now, however, Kalesnikava, despite her own political insignificance, is in a different situation. She
"apparently, spoke with her smart sister Tatsiana Khomich and in an interview stated what Khomich has long advocated. That is, the necessity of negotiations with the regime for the release of political prisoners — by lifting economic sanctions, and also the restoration of contacts between Belarusian residents and Europe."
However, not everyone is given to appreciate and accept this transformation:
"All these populist 'incredible ones' who painted their lips and idolized Kalesnikava in prison, ganged up on her and dragged her through the mud, started trampling her, teaching her how to live, getting indignant, snickering, etc. From false populist 'incredible love' to false vulgar hatred — it's one step. Both are irrational."
