US President Donald Trump has threatened to strike Iran if Tehran does not agree to a nuclear deal. Iranian authorities have stated that they are open to negotiations, but will also respond to aggression, writes the BBC.

Trump has threatened Iran before, and as the media report, he is now exploring various options for strikes on Iran, although he has not yet made a final decision.
"Hopefully Iran will soon "sit down" and agree to a fair and equitable deal – NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS – which will be good for all sides. Time is running out," Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
In 2018, during his first presidential term, Trump announced his withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear program agreement and imposed sanctions against the country.
Trump added on Wednesday that a "huge armada" was approaching Iran: "It's a bigger fleet, led by the huge aircraft carrier ‘Abraham Lincoln’, than the one sent to Venezuela."
An American carrier group has indeed arrived in the Persian Gulf region, off the coast of Iran. It is not yet known whether Trump's threats will materialize, but the necessary forces for a strike, as military observers believe, have been assembled.
The US last June, during Iran's 12-day war with Israel, struck Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump then stated that the Iranian nuclear program had been destroyed.
Iran was rocked by large-scale anti-government protests in January. Trump threatened to use military force in response to the brutal suppression of anti-government protests in the country, but then changed his mind. He did not mention the protests now, although three weeks ago he urged participants in mass demonstrations to continue fighting and assured them that "help is on the way."
According to him, a new strike on Iran in case of refusal of a deal would be "much worse" than the one the US inflicted on Iran's nuclear facilities last summer, during the 12-day Israeli-Iranian war.
As the media writes, Trump is exploring new options for striking Iran.
According to CNN and Reuters, among the options considered are strikes on the leadership of the Islamic Republic and security forces personnel allegedly responsible for the killings of protesters, as well as strikes on nuclear facilities and government institutions.
As the media writes, citing sources, Trump believes that he now has more options to strike Iran than before, thanks to the arrival of the carrier strike group in the Middle East region.
Iran has promised to respond to an American strike. According to Ali Shamkhani, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, the response will be directed against both the US and Israel, as well as against anyone who supports the aggression.
