As reported by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), 27 people were injured, including two with serious injuries.
As noted by AFP, Canadian media initially reported that the shooter was a woman, however, the police statement contains no details about the suspect.
"The situation evolved and changed rapidly, and operational cooperation from the school, emergency services, and the local community played a crucial role in our actions," the agency quoted RCMP Commander Ken Floyd as saying.
The Tumbler Ridge district, where the shooting occurred, is located more than 1100 kilometers north of Vancouver, the largest city in British Columbia, AFP notes.
