According to the local aviation administration, the airliner veered off the runway onto a busy highway, disintegrated, and caught fire. Cars traveling on the highway at the time were damaged by its debris.
As a result of the catastrophe, rescuers reported that at least 15 people died, including the plane's crew and people in the cars.
Unitel clarifies that the plane, commissioned by the local central bank, was transporting new banknotes to La Paz, which scattered across the area after the crash. A large number of people gathered at the scene of the incident, trying to collect the banknotes. Police had to use tear gas to disperse them, the TV channel reports.
Later, the head of Bolivia's central bank, David Espinosa, announced that the banknotes transported by this plane were invalid and would not be accepted for payment.
