One of the main targets of the first wave of strikes on Iran were the leaders of the Islamic Republic. Three sources in Israeli security structures told the NY Times about this.
Sources explain that they were counting on the element of surprise. According to the plan, many high-ranking Iranian officials were supposed to be killed during the first wave of strikes.
The publication also released a video from Tehran's government quarters, over which thick plumes of smoke rise. This area houses the presidential palace and Iran's National Security Council, as well as other important government buildings.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities stated that the country's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, as well as President Masoud Pezeshkian, are safe.
