According to the source, Iran is capable of posing a real threat to this important maritime route and warns the US not to worsen the situation.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is located between Yemen on one side and Eritrea and Djibouti on the other, connecting the Gulf of Aden with the Red Sea. It is of great importance for global trade, as a significant portion of maritime transport passes through it and the Suez Canal.
Previously, representatives of the Yemeni Houthis also stated that they could close this strait to the US and Israel if they entered the conflict on Iran's side. According to them, both commercial vessels and warships could be stopped.
Iran supports the Houthis and declares its readiness for further escalation, threatening to open new fronts of confrontation.
Earlier, Iran had already affected shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large part of global oil and liquefied gas supplies pass. This led to a rise in energy prices, and for the passage of ships, according to some reports, the Iranians began to charge significant unofficial payments.
