According to media reports, the US is considering the possibility of using Marines, among other things, to seize islands near Iran's southern coast to influence the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.
It is also noted that the Pentagon has already begun transferring about two thousand troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to the region. As a result, the total number of additional US ground forces in the Middle East could increase to several thousand, and with Marines and other units, up to 10,000 people.
In addition to the "Tripoli", another amphibious ready group, led by the ship USS Boxer, is expected to arrive in the region in the coming weeks.
