Henadz Tsiarenia, a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the XIII convocation, has died. His death was announced on Facebook by Valiantsina Sviatskaya, a former employee of the Supreme Soviet. He was 77 years old, Radio Svaboda reports .

Henadz Tsiarenia was born on May 9, 1948, in the village of Staiki, Orsha district.
In 1967, he graduated from the Orsha Transport College, in 1976, from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Belarusian State University, in 1990, from the Police Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, and in 1997, from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus with a specialization in "international law".
After his studies, he worked in various railway and police related structures. Initially, he was the head of a cargo point at Sciapianka station, later holding positions at the same station and working as an engineer in the Belarusian Railway system. From 1974 to 1996, he served in the police force, where he rose to the position of deputy head of the criminal police and led the unit for combating economic crimes.
He also participated in the country's political life. In independent Belarus, he joined the United Civic Party, and in the 1995 parliamentary elections, he ran as an independent in the Sianno district. Becoming a deputy of the Supreme Soviet, he worked on the commission for economic policy and reforms and was part of the opposition faction that opposed Lukashenka's policy.
After the constitutional changes in 1996, he did not join the House of Representatives, created by Lukashenka, and his parliamentary mandate formally continued under the old Constitution until 2001, although new elections never took place.
After the constitutional coup of 1996, he was in opposition to Alexander Lukashenka. At that time, a part of the deputies who did not recognize the dissolution of the Supreme Soviet in November 1996 elected him deputy chairman of parliament under Siamion Sharetski.
The farewell ceremony for Henadz Tsiarenia will take place on April 8 in Minsk from 12:00 to 13:00 in the funeral hall at Kuliashova Street, 49.
