Statkevich urged Belarusians not to pray in the language of the Russian Orthodox Church and to write on monuments in Belarusian

"Tomorrow, Belarusians will go to cemeteries to remember and honor their deceased relatives," he reminded about Radunitsa.

Radunitsa, the day of remembrance of ancestors, falls on April 21 this year. In most regions of Belarus, it is celebrated on the ninth day after Easter. In some — on Provodnaya Sunday or Navsky Thursday. However, it is an ancient Belarusian tradition to visit cemeteries and remember relatives once in spring and once in autumn — on Dzyady.

Hero-political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, in his Telegram channel on the eve of Radunitsa, urged Belarusians to stick to their own traditions and to reject customs imposed by occupiers, including ignoring the Moscow-controlled Russian Orthodox Church.

"Why do monuments of almost all Belarusians' relatives have inscriptions only in a foreign language? What, does God no longer have such a people? Or are our dead afraid of suspicion of disloyalty if their names are written on monuments in a 'suspicious nationalist language'? But the dead no longer have to fear. Or are we ourselves afraid? Of what?" — writes Statkevich.

— We don't even address God in our own language in our prayers. What, is that also scary? Don't believe them if they tell you that prayers and services in the church are in 'Old Slavonic.' In reality, they are in the Moscow language of the mid-17th century. It was in this language that the Moscow troops spoke when they came to our land and destroyed more than half of our people. If we continue to so consistently and stubbornly prove to God in various ways that we do not exist, then we truly will cease to exist," warns the former presidential candidate who endured two prolonged imprisonments in Lukashenka's prisons.

Let us remind you that Mikalai Statkevich, sentenced to 14 years, was released on September 11 as part of a group of 52 people and was being transported to Lithuania, but he left the bus, spent several hours at the border, after which he was re-detained and returned to the colony. In February, he suffered a stroke, spent several weeks in the hospital, and was released on February 19.
