Negotiations between the US and Iran in Islamabad will begin with dialogue through intermediaries, followed by direct consultations, CNN reports, citing sources.
According to the publication's source, the parties will likely agree on the agenda for negotiations through Pakistani intermediaries. They are then expected to move to face-to-face meetings later in the day.
As The Washington Post found out, American negotiators will ask Iran to release detained US citizens.
According to sources, it is currently unclear how strongly Trump administration officials will press Tehran for their release, but some have expressed concern that this demand might be delayed if negotiations prove difficult.
The Iranian delegation has already arrived in Islamabad. Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who leads the delegation, stated that Tehran would respond appropriately if Washington acts deceptively during the upcoming negotiations in Islamabad.
