Ukrainians Destroyed a Major Bridge with Drones for the First Time in History. Airstrikes and HIMARS Were Previously Powerless

The operation reportedly lasted about two months and targeted the Konkovsky Bridge over the Dnieper River near the city of Oleshky, which was used to supply Russian positions and shell Kherson.
Initially, attempts to destroy the bridge using conventional means — airstrikes and HIMARS-type systems — yielded no results, as the structure proved to be durable.
The turning point was the discovery of weak spots in the bridge's supports: one Russian serviceman published a photo, which Ukrainian analysts used to identify vulnerable areas, reports The Telegraph publication.
After this, the 426th Marine Corps Unmanned Systems Regiment joined the operation. They developed a special shaped charge and began striking the supports from below, rather than the top part of the bridge.
Heavy drones capable of lifting significant payloads were used to deliver the explosives. They approached the bridge and carefully lowered the charges on cables to the desired points. Such actions were repeated many times over several weeks, gradually weakening the structure. In this way, up to one and a half tons of explosives were delivered.
As a result, when the bridge was already significantly damaged, a final missile strike was launched against it, after which it collapsed.
A peculiarity of this operation is that civilian cargo drones were used, which were not originally intended for military tasks but were adapted for combat conditions.
