A story similar to the Dyatlov Pass incident practically repeated itself in Kamchatka. Only this time, not everyone died

Seven students went on a challenging ski trip to conquer the Avachinsky Pass. A dispute arose within the group, and they split up. The most experienced skier, the de facto leader of the group, survived. Her boyfriend also survived. She is 22, he is 30. For the rest, everything ended badly.

A group of nine tourists set off on a challenging ski trip in Kamchatka to overcome the Avachinsky Pass (altitude 900-1200 m), which is located between two active volcanoes — Avachinsky and Koryaksky Sopkas. As a result, a tragic story similar to the Dyatlov Pass incident practically repeated itself in our time.

According to Russian media, the participants were between 21 and 31 years old. According to preliminary information, most of them were involved in the Efremov Tourist Club at the Saint Petersburg Mining University.

The route theoretically belongs to the third category of difficulty: it includes several passes and canyons. However, the region is known for unpredictable weather — blizzards and snowstorms start suddenly here, and the group literally finds itself in a "whiteout" with zero visibility within minutes. The difficult terrain further complicates the situation — mountain rivers must be crossed along the way.

The tourists registered the route and left the village of Pinachevo (accent on the first syllable) on March 28. During the hike, a serious conflict arose among the participants. The group leader — 22-year-old student Elizaveta Ye. — suggested changing the originally agreed route to a shorter and safer one. However, the others insisted on following the planned, longer, and more dangerous path. As a result, she only managed to convince her partner — 30-year-old Yegor R., a candidate for master of sports in sports tourism.

Tents, a tourist burner, and satellite phones were only with the group leader and her companion, which significantly complicated the situation for the rest.

On April 6, the group of seven still made contact and reported that everything was fine. The next day, they were seen by snowmobile drivers near a waterfall on the Shumnaya River — the tourists planned to reach the Avachinsky Pass in one day. They were supposed to make contact for the last time on April 10, but no messages were received. After this, rescuers initiated a search operation.

As a result, Elizaveta and Yegor returned safely, while the other group members got caught in a severe blizzard. Two of them — 22-year-old Fyodor Rusov and 24-year-old Sergey Vasilevsky — died. Five others were found with severe frostbite and are now in the hospital, where they are receiving necessary assistance.
