In Lithuania, six people convicted for smuggling cigarettes from Belarus
Six residents of Vilnius, Trakai, Visaginas, and Rokiškis have been found guilty of smuggling cigarettes from Belarus and illegally disposing of them as part of an organized group, LRT reports , citing the prosecutor's office.
The court imposed fines totaling nearly 100,000 euros on these individuals. One of the convicted is a former border guard from Visaginas, who was dismissed from service for these crimes.
The convicted are obliged to pay the fines within 24 months from the date the court order comes into force.
Wetsuits, phones, and a boat motor were also confiscated from the convicted, and a sum corresponding to the value of a minivan — over 5,000 euros — will also be recovered.
