At a meeting on Sunday with commanders of divisions and brigades of all branches of the armed forces, Kim Jong Un called for adjusting the training system and expanding practical exercises to reflect changes in modern warfare, the North Korean news agency reports.
Kim also stated that plans to strengthen advanced units on the border with South Korea, as well as other major military units, are key to "more diligent deterrence of war". He emphasized the need for vigilance regarding the "sworn enemy" — as North Korea refers to the South.
Meanwhile, South Korea stated that this is likely Kim Jong Un's first meeting with division and brigade commanders since he came to power.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reported on Monday that North Korean troops have intensified work since March to strengthen defensive structures in areas near the land border between the two Koreas, including the construction of walls.
