The UK has decided to allow the import of certain types of fuel produced from Russian oil in third countries, and this permission has been issued without a defined term.

This refers to diesel fuel and aviation gasoline (jet fuel). The license comes into effect on May 20, 2026, and may be periodically reviewed by the authorities. However, the Home Secretary has the right to amend or revoke the permission at any time, although formally it is planned to provide advance notice.
This decision is explained by the difficult situation in the global energy market due to the conflict around Iran and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz — one of the key oil supply routes. As a result, fuel prices have sharply risen, and airlines have begun to cut flights.
It is also noted that, according to experts, European jet fuel reserves are limited, which creates additional risks for transport and the economy.
Previously, the UK consistently imposed restrictions on Russian oil and oil products: in 2022, their import was banned, and later restrictions were extended to products made from Russian oil in other countries. The current decision effectively softens these measures, taking into account the extraordinary circumstances in the energy market.
