According to the Alliance head, the Russian command is effectively sending its soldiers to their deaths.
"They are imposing an unfavorable deal on you. Men like you who enter battle will not undergo training. The equipment they give you will be substandard. There is a very high chance you will die or be wounded while you are there. And there is a probability that if you are wounded, you will be left to suffer in the mud and die. So, when we talk about tens of thousands of Russian dead, it's not an abstraction. It will probably be you," said Mark Rutte.
This statement comes against the backdrop of the Russian side's continued attempts to replenish its army ranks with new contract soldiers and mobilized personnel to continue military operations.
Recently, British intelligence stated that almost half a million Russian soldiers have died in the war in Ukraine.
Previously, Western analysts estimated the number of Russian soldiers and officers killed in the war at 325,000.
Such estimates for January 2026 were provided by the Center for International and Strategic Studies.
According to its data, the total losses of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine reached 1.198 million people.
