Residents of Hatava are no strangers to specific smells: leather production, proximity to Shabany, "echoes" of sludge ponds in Sinila.
Truth be told, local residents have had a bit of a respite lately. The leather factory finally managed to "quiet" its smells. But it's not that simple. Locals are still facing "aromatic" problems, writes Onliner.by.
— Against the backdrop of the recently published news that the leather factory in Hatava has implemented air purification technologies that eliminate unpleasant odors, and also "demonstrates an exemplary approach to waste-free production," I would like to draw attention to what is currently happening on the factory territory.
For the third week now, a large number of pallets with hides have been standing outside, in the rain and sun. This is not the first time this has happened. Approximately a month ago, the same quantity also stood in the open air for about two weeks. All of this gets wet in the rain, then — heat and sun, and so on in a cycle. You can roughly imagine what the smell is like here (although that word isn't the most apt). I am among those who work in close proximity to the factory. By the end of the day, this smell soaks into clothes, skin, hair. A natural question arises: is this even normal (in terms of technology, in terms of environmental friendliness)? — a reader complained.
Onliner contacted the Minsk Production Leather Association directly for comment. By phone, we were only told that raw materials are stored this way (in the open air).
