Two main cycling routes of Minsk will be connected via "Northern Shore"
Minsk plans to switch to bicycles: by 2030, about 380 kilometers of cycle paths are expected to appear in the city. A large-scale update of cycling infrastructure will also affect new districts. For example, in the 'Northern Shore' complex, which is under construction, convenient cycling routes will be integrated directly into residential development. Thanks to the creation of comfortable cycling infrastructure, the share of bicycle trips could increase to 8-10%, writes Realt.by.
A new network of cycling routes in the northern part of the capital will connect the city's two largest cycling arteries: the main Minsk cycle path (from Chyzhouka Reservoir to Minsk Sea, plus routes around Tsnyanka Reservoir) and the prospective main cycle path along the Slepianka water system.
The territory of 'Northern Shore' boasts a unique location between Minsk's two largest water-green systems (Drazdy and Tsnyanka) and will become the central connecting element of the city's unified natural-recreational framework.
As a result, a continuous cycling route unique to Minsk will be formed, connecting the following objects: Minsk Sea — Drazdy — 'Northern Shore' — Friendship of Peoples Park — National Library — Slepianka water system — Chyzhouka Reservoir.
The planned cycling infrastructure of 'Northern Shore' envisages the creation of a full-fledged urban cycling network, which includes: cycling routes in the existing and projected parts of Lakeside Park, dedicated cycle paths along city streets, intra-quarter cycling boulevards, bicycle parking, and bicycle boxes.
Upon completion of the cycling infrastructure construction in the 'Northern Shore' complex, one of the most developed cycling infrastructures in the country will be created: about 20 thousand bicycle parking spaces in modern bicycle boxes and over 24 km of intra-quarter cycling routes.
The project will be implemented in two stages. In the first stage, by 2030, 6 thousand bicycle parking spaces, 8 kilometers of intra-quarter cycle paths, 3 kilometers of cycling routes in Lakeside Park, and 15 km of cycle paths along the street network will be built. The second part of the cycling infrastructure will be completed by 2040.
The unification of the capital's cycling ecosystems and the integration of 'Northern Shore' into them will form a single main cycling framework for Minsk and create conditions for using bicycles as a full-fledged urban transport.
'Northern Shore' is a modern residential area near Tsnyanka Reservoir, where nature, urban infrastructure, and a comfortable living environment are combined. The project is being implemented by Riverside Development Limited LLC. Today, residential buildings and social infrastructure are actively being built here: keys to 17 homes have already been handed over, and another 40 objects are under construction.
