A male engineer entered the gynecologist's office of a Gomel polyclinic during a woman's examination — but he wasn't reprimanded
Gynecologist Anastasia Dupak told how her desire to protect a patient's privacy led to her dismissal from the polyclinic.
«It turned out that the presence of a male engineer during a vaginal ultrasound for a woman is considered normal. And the fact that I kicked him out was a disruption of his work schedule.»
The incident unfolded within the walls of the Gomel City Polyclinic. According to the gynecologist, she was examining a patient in her office when an engineer burst in with the intention of conducting routine maintenance on the ultrasound machine.
«No one warned me about his visit. The offer to move to another office was not made. And when I led the engineer out the door and locked it, both the midwife and the engineer started banging on it and complaining: "What? She even locked the door?" — recounts Anastasia on social media, who ultimately resigned from the polyclinic. She did not want to continue working where she could not achieve a respectful attitude towards her patients.»

Svetlana Litvinenko, Deputy Chief Doctor of the Gomel Central City Clinical Polyclinic, described her version of events in a comment to a state newspaper.
«The engineer's visit was not a surprise for the doctor; she was notified in advance. The repair specialist was waiting in the senior midwife's office, and when the patient left the office where the equipment needed for maintenance was located, the equipment was moved to another room for the necessary work. It was explained that if the work took longer, it would be necessary to move to another office for a similar machine, but the doctor did not want to do this even theoretically. The repair of the machine took about 10 minutes, after which it was returned to its place.»
According to Svetlana Litvinenko, the gynecologist may have wanted to draw attention to herself in this way.
In the Threads comments, where the story is being discussed, people are genuinely surprised that the polyclinic management sided with the engineer, not their colleague. Moreover, a "corrective conversation" was held with the doctor.
«The management argued that the engineer came for one day and could not adjust to me. They implied that I should have given him all the machines and left. I tried to explain that I had a patient undergoing a vaginal ultrasound, and he was bursting in with the door wide open, but I was told "You are wrong".»
