Minister of Communications Revealed Achievements of Unlimited Internet Restrictions
Minister of Communications and Informatization Kiryl Zaleski stated in an interview with state television that after the introduction of speed restrictions on unlimited mobile internet, the load on networks in Belarus significantly decreased.
Kiryl Zaleski added that the new rules have been in effect since February of this year. According to them, subscribers can use the internet at maximum speed within 30 gigabytes of traffic per month. After exceeding this volume, the speed is reduced to 1 megabit per second, but operators offer the option to restore high speed for an additional fee.
According to the Minister, these measures allowed increasing the network capacity. Last year, it grew by 28 percent, and since the beginning of 2026 — by another 17 percent. For the first time, the pace of infrastructure development, he said, is outpacing the growth of internet traffic consumption.
By the end of the year, Belarus plans to put into operation another 2100 mobile communication base stations. Of these, about 900 are already operational, and another 1200 are under construction.
The expansion of coverage in the regions also continues. In the eastern part of the country, in rural areas, the use of the 800 MHz band has already doubled, and by the end of the year, similar work is planned to be completed in western Belarus.
The fifth-generation network (5G) is already available in Minsk and most regional centers. However, according to the Ministry of Communications, currently only about 30 percent of mobile phones used by Belarusians support this technology.
