"You have nowhere to put people." Lukashenka inspired Uzbeks to settle depopulated Mogilev Region
During a working trip to the Orsha district, Alexander Lukashenka once again returned to the issue of inviting numerous workers from Uzbekistan to work in Belarus. Especially since the visit of the hakim (head) of Uzbekistan's Andijan region, Shukhratbek Abdurahmanov, was timed for this period.
Lukashenka advised the Uzbek guest not to limit himself to the territory of the Vitebsk region, but to immediately go and settle the depopulated south-east of the Mogilev region.
"Don't focus too much on the Vitebsk region. We have an entire South-East with a specific program. We will not cancel it. Goodies and other things, benefits — the South-East of the Mogilev region, where people... But the lands there are better than his. So you also take a look. There, simply, he has, simply the South-East! Take the whole territory there, produce. The main thing there is people."
When Shukhratbek Abdurahmanov said that Lukashenka himself had previously directed him to work with the Vitebsk region, Lukashenka did not listen:
"That's what you did right. And further... Well, what are these 7 or 8 districts to you? You need to look at the South-East too. What's my interest? People. There aren't that many people there, and you have nowhere to put people. Especially in the Andijan region. Let them come and work. So both in Vitebsk and there. But we must decide this. The government is now working to present you with how many people are needed, what kind of personnel should be there, and so on. If they don't know how, let them learn. They will quickly teach them here, in half a year. And in the Vitebsk region too. The main thing is to have the desire."
On July 9, during the visit of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus, Belarus and Uzbekistan signed an intergovernmental agreement on the organized recruitment and employment of citizens of Uzbekistan for temporary work in Belarus.
