The Sluch in Slutsk has become so overgrown that the current is almost invisible in places

Residents of Slutsk increasingly complain about the overgrowth of the Sluch river, from which the city got its name. In some places, the current is already almost invisible, and clearing the riverbed on their own is too expensive, writes BG.Media.

A resident of Slutsk published a message drawing attention to the state of the Sluch river near Vecherkevich Street. In her opinion, the reservoir is gradually becoming overgrown, and without clearing, the situation will only worsen.

“The small river is slowly turning into a swamp. In winter, when the ice was strong, we even tried to clear it a bit ourselves, but, in my opinion, everything needs to be removed along with the roots. We inquired how much it would cost to do this on our own, at least on our street — it turns out to be very expensive. We still maintain the embankment a little ourselves. Because of the thickets, the current is already almost invisible,” said the Slutsk resident.

In the comments, many noted that the overgrowth of the Sluch can be observed in other areas as well.

Some write that the problem has long gone beyond one district:

“Nobody cares. They mow the embankment, and these burdocks are just let go with the flow. Beyond the medical college, you can't even get through — everything is overgrown.”

Others draw attention to the situation in another part of Slutsk.

“In the Navadvortsy area, the river will soon turn into a stream — it's also heavily overgrown, there's almost no current.”

There were also those who linked the situation to broader ecological processes:

“After land reclamation, many rivers were almost destroyed, and small ones disappeared completely. Now we need to re-swamp the territories, otherwise droughts will only become more frequent.”

This is not the first time local residents have drawn attention to the state of the Sluch. Earlier, there were reports of complaints from residents of the village of Pratsavichy, Slutsk district, about the pollution of the old riverbed of the Sluch.

Local residents then claimed that the water in the reservoir had noticeably deteriorated, and the problem remained unresolved despite numerous appeals. To draw attention to the situation, they even recorded a video message.

Checks by the Slutsk District Inspectorate of Natural Resources confirmed an exceedance of permissible concentrations of a number of pollutants.

The main reason cited was heavily worn-out treatment facilities, built back in the 1970s. According to state media, their reconstruction is planned to be completed only by 2029 within the framework of the "Comfortable Housing and Favorable Environment" program.
